Kenya's Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo has appointed 47 county commanders, including 13 women, Kenya's The Standard reported Friday (June 14th).

Of the 47 new county commanders, 37 are senior superintendents of police, seven assistant commissioners of police, two senior assistant commissioners and one deputy commissioner of police.

The appointments go against the National Police Service Commission's (NPSC) plan to hire new county commanders through an advertisement campaign for the positions.

Kimaiyo and the NPSC have been competing for control of the police force. Nonetheless, Kimaiyo will forward the names to the commission for approval.

Outgoing provincial police officers and their deputies have been ordered to come to Nairobi to join provincial commissioners as regional commanders.
