The Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) will prepare a draft of Tanzania's new constitution for citizen review by June, CRC chairman Judge Joseph Warioba announced Monday (February 4th).

When complete, the draft constitution will be published in newspapers to allow all citizens to review the document, Warioba said during a press conference in Dar es Salaam according to Tanzania's The Guardian. A series of forums will then be held to discuss its provisions, with five elected representatives for each ward, except for wards in Dar es Salaam which will have eight, including representatives for women, youth and elders.

The CRC was formed in April 2012, and has since held community meetings throughout the country with hundreds of thousands of Tanzanians to gather opinions on what should be included in the constitution. Much of the debate has centred on the role of the union government in the new constitution, which is scheduled to be considered by the Constituent Assembly in April 2014.

"We finished the first part of collecting opinions in December last year," Warioba said. "Last month, we met with institutional stakeholders and other dignitaries who, like wananchi [citizens], provided invaluable opinions that will guide the commission in preparing the draft …"

The CRC met with 19 political parties, 22 religious institutions, 72 civil society organizations, 71 government institutions and 43 dignitaries from Tanzania and Zanzibar in January, the news agency reported.

I think the Tanzanian government should pass the draft as it looks good and I feel it will be successful.

I congratulate the Commission and ask it to be calm, because you can't always please all people. But I want to know from you, the Editor, if the Tanganyika Government is formed and we have its President, will we have another Constitution for Tanganyika as Zanzibaris have in the Union?????
