Five al-Shabaab fighters have defected to Somali government forces in Baidoa, Somalia's Radio Daljir reported Tuesday (December 25th).
Bay Police Commander Mahad Abdirahman said the former al-Shabaab members would be rehabilitated, adding that the administration expects more militants to defect and join government forces.
The defections came after the Somali National Army intensified its operations against al-Shabaab in the Bay region, according to regional commander Colonel Mahad Abdirahman.
