Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki appointed Katoo ole Metito as the country's new internal security minister on Thursday (September 20th), replacing Acting Minister Yusuf Haji, Kenya's The Standard reported.

Metito served as a member of parliament from Kajiado South and former assistant minister for regional development before his appointment. The Internal Security Ministry has been under temporary leadership since the death of Minister George Saitoti in a helicopter crash in June.

Metito takes over the Internal Security Ministry as the general elections in March 2013 and recent violence in the Tana River Delta have raised concerns about widespread ethnic conflict.
