A confessed member of al-Shabaab was sentenced to 59 years in prison by a Kenyan court on Thursday (September 20th), AFP reported.
Kenyan national Abdimajid Yassin Mohammed, 26, was arrested two weeks ago for possession of explosives -- including four suicide vests and a dozen hand grenades -- in the Nairobi's Eastleigh neighbourhood. He and a comrade were charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives and membership in al-Shaabab.
"The accused is not remorseful and I convict him on his own plea of guilty," said senior principal magistrate Lucy Nyambura.
Kenyan extremist group the Muslim Youth Centre expressed its support for Mohammed on Twitter, praising "the audacity of modern jihad" and saying "we luv u bros!".
Mohammed was arrested with a comrade who has entered a plea of not guilty and will appear before the court next month.
