Six people, including four civilians, were injured in Garissa in a twin explosion attack on Friday (September 21st).

Officials told Sabahi that two police officers were injured when their lorry hit an improvised explosive devise while on routine patrol near the Garissa Provincial General Hospital.

"There was a second explosion targeting the response team and four civilians who had gathered at the scene were injured," Garissa District Commissioner Maalim Mohamud told Sabahi.

Five people were treated and discharged, while one of the officers needed further medical attention, he said.

No one has yet claimed responsibility.

However, al-Shabaab and its sympathisers have carried out similar attacks because of Kenya's involvement in the African Union Mission in Somalia.

Mohamud said this was the first attack in nearly two months since al-Shabaab sympathisers sprayed bullets and hurled grenades at area churches in July.

"We are asking the general public to avoid rushing to scenes of explosion since they could be traps for second attacks," he said, adding that security forces are planning an operation to seize weapons in Garissa and asked the community to volunteer information.

Why do you ask Al-Shabaab sympathizers to give you information? Garissa should be turned into a war zone. A search should be conducted and movements restricted. And then KDF should conduct an operation in the entire North Eastern region otherwise we will still have that sorry state of affairs.
