Kenya's Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko announced on Wednesday (September 19th) that the team investigating the assassination of Islamist cleric Aboud Rogo Mohammed has received a two-month extension of its mandate.

"We had a meeting with the team today. It indicated a lot of work has been done, like recording of statements, but there are a number of areas that require to be fully addressed. They requested for their term to be extended, which I have granted," Tobiko said, according to Kenya's Capital FM.

Jacob Ondari of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution co-ordinates the 11-member team, which includes representatives from government offices, professional associations and human rights groups. The team is charged with investigating the murder of Rogo and the ensuing violence in Mombasa.

"The team recommended, in order to give it a legal basis, that they be converted into a taskforce and be gazetted with clear terms of reference," Tobiko said, adding that the request will be granted.
