Somalia's new president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will be officially inaugurated on Sunday (September 16th), Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari announced on Wednesday.
Jawari said leaders in parliament scheduled the inauguration in consultation with relevant Somali authorities. The ceremony will be held in Mogadishu, less than a week after parliamentarians elected Mohamud on Monday.
Mohamud was scheduled to take over residence at the presidential palace after the inauguration, but he was moved to Villa Somalia after a failed assassination attempt at his hotel on Wednesday, according to spokesperson for the African Union Mission in Somalia Colonel Ali Aden Humud.
Villa Somalia is still home to Transitional Federal Government President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
