Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia Ambassador Boubacar Diarra sent Eid al-Fitr greetings to the Somali people on Saturday (August 18th).
"This year's Eid al-Fitr comes at a significant period in Somalia's history, as the country recently passed a constitution that ends 12 years of transitional governments and is preparing to usher in a new government after decades of chaos," Diarra said, according to the Somali National News Agency.
Diarra also extended thanks and Eid greetings to soldiers serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). "Your hard work and sacrifice have given Somalia the best chance it has had in decades to achieve peace and stability," he said.
AMISOM remains committed to supporting Somalia, and will continue to work with the new government established after the mandate of the Transitional Federal Government ends on Monday, he said.
