The Somali military has opened a new court in Balad, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported Friday (August 10th).
Judge General Hassan Mohamed Hussein presided over the court's opening in which he thanked TFG and allied forces for liberating Balad from al-Shabaab and making the establishment of the court possible.
Hussein said they have several suspected al-Shabaab militants in custody, and some have already confessed being members of the al-Qaeda-affiliated group.
Hussein said he would carefully monitor Somali government forces in Balad to ensure their respect for local residents, and warned them against operating illegal checkpoints, adding that he will prosecute those who break the law.
