Somali and Ethiopian troops reportedly killed more than 30 al-Shabaab militants after the militants attacked their base in Hudur on Monday (August 6th), UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
Al-Shabaab claimed they killed more than 60 Ethiopian soldiers, including at least four senior commanders, according to the group's Twitter feed.
The number of casualties could not be independently verified.
Fighting lasted for several hours, said District Commissioner Mohamed Moalim Ahmed, injuring 12 other militants. He did not comment on losses among allied forces in the confrontation.
This is the second attack on Somali forces in Hudur since the beginning of Ramadan. Allied forces captured the town from al-Shabaab in March.
