The 3rd Africa Governance, Leadership and Management Convention opened in Mombasa Monday (August 6th) with the theme "Towards sustainable wealth and job creation: Challenges and opportunities for Africa", Kenya's Daily Nation reported.
"We cannot expect that someone else will come and create jobs for Africa unless we do it ourselves. Everyone is tired of the same song about poverty in Africa and we should now change the drumbeat," said former President of Nigeria Olesegun Obasanjo, a patron of the conference.
Conference panellists, including Kenya's Central Bank Governor Njuguna Ndung'u, will discuss the role of financial institutions and capital markets in job creation. Kenya created about 500,000 jobs last year.
Six African nations sent representatives to the four-day forum, organised by the Kenya Institute of Management's Africa Leadership Forum and the UN Development Programme.
