Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said elders have an important role to play in maintaining national cohesion leading to the upcoming presidential elections, Kenya's Daily Nation reported Thursday (August 2nd).
"What is the point of fighting to win an election only to discover in the long run that there is no country to lead?" Musyoka said during a meeting with the Kipsigis Council of Elders on Wednesday at his home in Nairobi. Musyoka is vying for the presidency in the Kenyan election scheduled for March 4th, 2013.
Musyoka said the elders' role in offering wise counsel to the youth and politicians is fundamental to continue gains made to unite communities after the 2008 post-election violence. He urged the elders to cultivate national loyalty in politicians, ahead of personal interest.
