Kenyan military officials say their recruitment efforts have been met with enthusiasm by youth this year, Kenya's The Standard reported Thursday (August 2nd).
Lieutenant Colonel Lazurus Wafula, the senior military recruitment officer, said that Kenyan soldiers' fight against al-Shabaab in Somalia has energised young people and inspired them to join the military.
"There is general excitement and initially we thought people would not come out. In Rumuruti, we were overwhelmed," he said.
More than 250 men and 30 women came to a military recruitment event at Nanyuki Municipal Stadium, he said, and recruitment for the army, navy and air force will continue.
