Kenyan athletics head coach Julius Kirwa said he plans to bring home 10 gold medals from the Olympic Games in London, Kenya's Daily Nation reported on Monday (July 30th).
Kirwa commended the Olympic athletes for their discipline and collegiality during training. Unlike in previous years, where athletes trained in groups, the Olympians have been training together this year. "That is the spirit and teamwork we shall be banking on and I hope for a superlative outcome in London, as compared to the 2008 Beijing Games," he said.
Kenya won 14 medals in Beijing in 2008 -- six gold, four bronze and four silver. Pamela Jelimo became the first Kenyan woman to win an Olympic title in 800-metre race. Nancy Jebet Langat also won the 1,500-metre race.
A group of Kenyan runners who opted to finish training in Kenya rather than in Bristol, England, departed for London on Sunday.
