A group of Somali Muslim scholars voiced objections to several principles in the draft constitution on Sunday (July 29th), saying they are contrary to Islam, Somalia's Radio Risaala reported.
Chairman of the Supreme Religious Council in Somalia Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad said the group contests the constitutional provisions on age of puberty, banning female circumcision and the boundaries of Somalia.
Sheikh Nur Baruud Gurhan, the group's deputy chairman, said the government had stated its commitment to compliance with Islamic law.
The draft constitution states that Islamic law is the basis for Somalia's legal foundation.
