Radio Mogadishu has begun its annual general knowledge competition, held every evening throughout Ramadan following the iftar meal, the Somali National News Agency reported Saturday (July 21st).

The competition pits teams from 32 districts across Somalia against one another in a general knowledge contest. During the contest's opening on Friday, Radio Mogadishu hosts urged tolerance between competing teams.

Hormud Telecom, a Somali-owned telecommunications company headquartered in Mogadishu, is sponsoring the game, as well as regional competition on Radio Shabelle. In the Radio Shabelle contest, winners can receive prizes up to $3,000.

The objective of game is to stimulate spiritual and intellectual development among youth by providing an incentive for learning, according to Shabelle Media Network.
