A Malaysia-based foundation announced Monday (July 16th) that it is planning to build and develop water facilities in Somalia, Bikya Masr reported.
Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) said it would provide funding and resources to build new wells. Foundation trustee Ahmed Talib, who returned to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday after a six-day trip to Somalia, said Somali people deserve better water facilities.
"They are relying on wells for their daily water supply and some of these wells have been around for more than 300 years," he said. "But these wells are very deep and need a good pump system."
Talib and three other foundation staff oversaw the fitting of three wells with working pumps, and plan to construct more when they return in three to four months.
"The purpose of our visit was to monitor the situation there and identify how best we can assist them," he said.
