Somalia's Transitional Federal Government announced Saturday (July 14th) that it will launch a programme to provide medical aid for internally displaced persons.
Minister of Health Mohammad Omar said the government will send mobile hospitals with medical professionals to towns in need of healthcare services in southern and central Somalia, Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reported.
"We have already launched similar health projects in Baidoa town, 250 kilometres south of Mogadishu, to assist the needy people in poor health in the town and its surrounding villages after al-Shabaab militants' withdrawal," Omar said.
The ministry has also provided health facilities and medicine for hospitals in Balad and Afgoye, areas near Mogadishu that Somali and allied forces recently liberated from al-Shabaab.
