Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and World Bank in Africa Vice President Makhtar Diop discussed partnership and development projects in a meeting at the State House in Nairobi on Saturday (July 7th), the Daily Nation reported.
Kibaki expressed his gratitude for the World Bank's longstanding support of Kenya's development efforts to improve the living standards of citizens, estimating the value of Kenya's portfolio of ongoing World Bank-funded projects at $39.4 million (3.3 billion shillings). Projects include road improvement, water and sanitation infrastructure, energy, agriculture, education and health.
The two parties are negotiating support for the construction of a road between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the Westlands neighbourhood, which will cost an estimated $298 million (25 billion shillings).
Diop voiced his dedication to maintaining and deepening co-operation between Kenya and the World Bank. He commended Kenya for setting a democratic example with the creation of a new constitution that decentralises the county governments.
