The Somali military thwarted an attack in Beled Hawo in which al-Shabaab had intended to disrupt Independence Day celebrations on Sunday (July 1st), the Somali National News Agency reported.
Soldiers killed one al-Shabaab member and injured several others, said Beled Hawo District Commissioner Adam Barre Ali, adding that three suspects were arrested and are being held in the city police station.
Festivities for Somalia's 52nd anniversary of its independence concluded safely and successfully in Beled Hawo and across Somalia, according to the official news agency.
