The Tanzanian government has pledged increased border security to combat human trafficking after 43 Ethiopian immigrants died in transit last week, Tanzania's The Guardian reported Sunday (July 1st).

"The government in collaboration with East African and other African governments will ensure maximum security at borders to combat this illegal trade," said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pereira Ame Silima at the burial of 21 migrants near Dodoma on Friday.

"It is very sad to learn that people have now prioritised money, discarding humanity," he said. "The government will neither tolerate such individuals nor their deeds. Stern measures will be taken against any individuals involved in this business."

Silima said police have launched an investigation in Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia to apprehend all individuals involved in human trafficking. He strongly condemned those involved in the practice.
