A Mombasa court has granted police permission to hold the individual suspected of carrying out last Sunday's Mombasa bombing for an additional 10 days, Kenya's Daily Nation reported Thursday (June 28th).
The suspect, Athuman Salim Kassim, has been in custody since the attack on June 24th and will be moved from the hospital to a police station.
Chief police inspector Luka Tumbo said in an affidavit that he has information indicating Kassim's connection to the bombing at a bar, which killed three people and injured 30.
Also on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi called on police to step up their investigations into the attacks in Mombasa. "We want police to carry out intensive investigations and arrest the right people who are responsible for explosions that have left several dead and others injured," he said.
