Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali dismissed traditional elders' proposal to add 50 seats to the Somali parliament.
The representative group of traditional elders charged with selecting members of parliament in advance of the transitional government's conclusion in August proposed expanding the number of seats in parliament to 275.
"The number of seats in parliament does not need to be revised because leaders have had many meetings over this issue and agreed to set the number at 225," Ali said at a news briefing in Mogadishu on Saturday (June 23rd). The draft constitution does not give the elders authority to determine the number of seats, he said.
Somali leaders approved on Friday a draft constitution that will be presented on July 12th to the National Constituent Assembly for approval.

The most direct solution to any problem, is to explicitly discuss it. I think that Somalia is progressively heading towards stability, and this is very promising.
