The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is expanding its programme that allows people receiving humanitarian aid in Somalia to provide feedback about the services via text messages, the organisation said Tuesday (June 12th).

The DRC also says it plans to implement this programme in other countries.

"It is encouraging for us to be able to get feedback directly from the people whom we are here to help," said Peter Klansoe, regional director for the DRC Horn of Africa and Yemen. "We acknowledge that aid recipients rarely have the opportunity to express their opinions. We are thus committed to disseminate the use of text messaging systems in Somalia and to replicate it in other countries."

Since 2011, the project has been implemented in 31 villages and towns in north and east Somalia. The project is currently expanding in Mogadishu, where recipients submit hundreds of text messages, the aid organisation said.

The DRC posts uncensored feedback it receives on its website and through various social media outlets.
