Somali president urges Afgoye residents to co-operate with government

Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and cabinet ministers visited the Afgoye district on Tuesday (May 29th) and spoke with residents of the newly liberated area, the Somali National News Agency reported.

The president, who survived an assassination attempt on the same day, visited Elasha Biyaha and Alamade and encouraged residents to co-operate with security forces and the Somali government. His delegation included ministers, lawmakers and senior security officials.

Somali army commanders and AMISOM forces welcomed the president and his delegation, tightening security in the area, the agency reported.

The president thanked the Somali and AU forces for their victory over al-Shabaab in Afgoye.
