Somalia Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali said on Monday (May 28th) that al-Shabaab is losing its battle in southern Somalia and reiterated the government's commitment to eradicating the militant group.
Speaking to state-run Radio Mogadishu, Ali congratulated and thanked the Somali military and AMISOM forces for the successes achieved in operations in the Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions.
The prime minister said the government is working to ensure public safety in newly liberated areas, and will not stop until peace is achieved in the country. He urged civilians to continue supporting security forces and help move the country forward. Ali said he was happy to see that territory has been recently captured from al-Shabaab.
Also on Monday, AMISOM Deputy Force Commander Auduence Dmuawnce told a press conference in Afgoye, "We are committed to continue the fighting against al-Shabaab in south and central regions of Somalia until we put in place the rule of law."
