Kenyan police said Tuesday (May 29th) they are hunting for a man suspected of planting an explosive device that ripped through shops in central Nairobi on Monday, wounding 38 people.

"We are carrying on with the investigation but so far we have not made any arrest," Nairobi's deputy police chief Moses Nyakwama told AFP.

"We are pursuing information that there is a person who went and placed a bag in one of the shops and that is where the explosion went off," he said. "We have the description of that person; officers are piecing together information that will help get him and the people he may have worked with."

Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Monday called the explosion a "terrorist" attack and urged Kenyans to remain united. "They have failed elsewhere and we know they are going to fail in our country," Odinga said, according to Kenya's Capital FM.

"The lives and property of Kenyans are precious … they must be protected. We condemn the terrorists and tell them that their days are numbered. Kenyans will succeed; the terrorists will not succeed," Odinga added.

He called on Kenyan security forces "to put more effort into fighting these terrorists."
