More than one hundred traditional elders from Somalia travelled to Istanbul on Saturday (May 26th) at the invitation of the Turkish government, Somalia's RBC Radio reported. The group will spend one week in the capital city, Istanbul.
"This is not only a visit, but we will meet some Turkish officials and religious men who are experienced in the Islamic rule and system of governance," said Burhan Bokor Muse, an elder from the Puntland region. Meetings on conflict resolution will be held for the education of the elders as they participate in the selection of the constituent assembly.
The elders will also visit historic sites around Istanbul, and receive check-ups from Turkish doctors, before they return to Mogadishu to resume their responsibilities in the design of Somalia's post-transition government.
