The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has warned Somalis to disregard phone calls from scammers purporting to be IOM staffers.

The scammers tell Somalis that they have won an IOM lottery that would enable them to relocate to the United Kingdom, the United States or Australia, the organisation said in a statement.

"Please be informed that these telephone calls are scams. IOM has not and does not engage in any form of lottery and wishes to distance itself from these claims," IOM said in a statement. "If you receive such phone calls please ignore them, do not reply to them, and please do not follow any requests to give anybody your money. Just hang up!"
