Three-time champions Kenya Pipeline won the opening match at the Africa Women's Volleyball Club Championships on Thursday (May 10th), beating Gabon's Manga Sport.
"We had so many injuries last year which cost us the title, but we are back in full swing this year," said attacker Ruth Chepng'etich, according to Kenya's Daily Nation. "This is not to say the going was smooth, but we worked for it."
Last year, Pipeline lost to compatriots Kenya Prisons, losing three sets.
Pipeline will square off against Uganda's Nkumba University on Friday. The 2006 champions, Kenya Commercial Bank, also scored a win on Thursday against Stella from Côte d'Ivoire.
