Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has called on financial authorities to set up a commodity exchange to prevent farmers from being exploited, Tanzania's Daily News reported on Friday (May 11th).
This follows the president's visit to the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange, which facilitates commodity exchange between sellers and buyers.
"There is no need of shopping far away for the best commodity exchange model," Kikwete said. "You should emulate the Ethiopian model. This is the best model, which resembles our needs due to the nature and type of commodities being traded here."
A Tanzanian exchange will free millions of Tanzanian farmers from exploitative buyers, Kikwete said.

This will not be possible in a country like Tanzania where exploitation is a system protected by the government; for Tanzanians agricultural work is of no value within the country that is why the Tanzanian farmer has a more difficult life compared to anyone else, a farmer does not even have HEALTH insurance, if a system of EXCHANGE is introduced farmers will suffer more than they do now,
