The Kenyan government has distributed 106 million shillings ($1.3 million) to technology enterprises nationwide to promote the development of local digital content, Kenya's Daily Nation reported on Monday (May 7th).
More than 30 organisations were selected from 790 applicants for the funds. The organisations will work on to convert school syllabi to a digital format and to develop video games and software for the health sector.
"We have now moved from discussing infrastructure to content development, better policies and capacity-building for the industry," said Information and Communications Permanent Secretary Bitange Ndemo.
The digital funding project is part of 250-million-shilling ($3-million) grant from the World Bank, which aims to motivate local technological innovations.
