The Ireland-based oil exploration group Tullow Oil announced on Monday (May 7th) that it has discovered additional oil in Kenya's Ngamia-1 exploration well.
The net oil pay stands at 100 metres, up from the 26 metres announced in late March when the oil discovery was first made public.
"The net pay encountered so far in Ngamia-1 is more than double that encountered in any of our East African exploration wells to date," said Tullow Exploration Director Angus McCoss.
Tullow's country manager Martin Mbogo said the well will be drilled to a depth of about 2,700 metres "to explore deeper potential".
"The prospects are very good and we only hope that the next results will also be good," Kenya's Prime Ministers Raila Odinga said at a press briefing.
