Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete swore into office 15 ministers and 16 deputy ministers on Monday (May 7th) following a cabinet reshuffle on Friday, Tanzania's Daily News reported.

New Finance and Economic Affairs Minister William Mgimwa said he plans to tackle the country's inflation problem, which hovers around 19%.

"We are now witnessing the ever-rising prices of rice, beans, sugar and maize flour," Mgimwa said. "This makes life difficult for many people, particularly those in the low-income bracket."

Minister for Health and Social Welfare Hussein Mwinyi pledged to tackle shortages of medicines and medical supplies at public hospitals and clinics, focusing his efforts on improving the Medical Supplies Department. "We are going to look at the institution and improve its operations," he said.

Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Khamis Kagasheki vowed to address poaching, unsustainable harvesting of natural resources and illegal trade of timber. He said he would enact changes, cognisant of citizen complaints against corrupt officials.
