Continued flooding and high rivers caused the deaths of two children in Kenya on Sunday (May 6th), Kenya's Daily Nation reported.
A 13-year-old girl died attempting to cross the Aruja River in Homa Bay district. Her brother survived by hanging on to the branches of a tree and is in a nearby hospital receiving treatment for shock.
In Rachuonyo district, a 7-year-old boy was swept away, along with three cattle.
The Kenya Red Cross Society has launched operations in Homa Bay district to assist residents as they cope with the destruction caused by the flooding, which has claimed the lives of 50 people since it began in March.
More than 60,000 people have been displaced due to floods this year, with many people's houses destroyed or submerged.
