The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned that it has received only 12% of its $298-million goal for humanitarian missions in Somalia this year, putting thousands of Somali children at risk of starvation.

"This work continues and it is a huge operation that is saving children's lives every day," said UNICEF spokeswoman Marixie Mercado. "If we do not get our funding, all our programmes will have to get cut back," she said. "Those who are most severely acutely malnourished are at imminent risk of death."

Mercado said about 325,000 acutely malnourished children are in great need of assistance.

She said a lack of security has been an impediment to helping children in need. "We have 1.9 million children who have not been reached by immunisation in the south and central zones because of access restrictions," she said.

Al-Shabab is a corrupt movement and it tortures people. They can never be considered mujahidin and it is enough that they prevented the Islamic relief organizations from entering their areas. They want to starve to death, which proves that they are not humans and that they have no feelings, or conscience. We say nothing but we seek God's help against them, because manipulated the minds of the youth and made them destroy their home with their own hands.
