Somalia's attorney general has issued an arrest warrant for the chief justice of the supreme court for allegedly releasing prisoners from Mogadishu prison in exchange for cash, Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reported on Tuesday (May 1st).
Aydid Abdullah, also known as Ilka Hanaf, is accused of releasing prisoners from Mogadishu central penitentiary and will be tried as soon as possible, said Attorney General Ali Mohamed Yuusuf. "This kind of crime committed by Ilka Hanaf is absolutely against the nationhood of Somalia and moving the country out of corruption," he said.
The warrant was issued after a long-term investigation of the judge's activities, Yuusuf said.
"Numerous prisoners are now being held unlawfully at Mogadishu's central detention centre. The office of the national attorney general is now aware of why they are in the jail and where they were arrested," he said.
