Authorities in Mogadishu arrested several suspects following the killing of a Transitional Federal Government soldier on Sunday (April 29th), UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported on Monday.
Security forces are interrogating the suspects to determine their roles in killing the officer in the Shibis district, said Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, director of the National Security Agency. Fiqi told state radio that police will put security measures in place in Mogadishu to protect citizens.
In related news, Somali security forces have foiled recent al-Shabaab attacks in the Dharkenley district.
"Al-Qaeda and their affiliate, al-Shabaab, tried to attack government bases, but we repelled them and killed several of their fighters," said Dharkenley District Commissioner Maalim Abdulle Ali Hilowle, the Somali National News Agency reported on Sunday.
"The group has been weakened since they are being fought on four fronts," Hilowle said.
