Al-Shabaab will continue its attacks on AMISOM troops despite recent changes to the force's structure, al-Shabaab spokesperson Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage told a pro-al-Shabaab radio station on Monday (April 30th).
Rage said car bombings and other attacks on AU forces will not stop. He said that the fact that AMISOM has appointed a new commander is a sign of their failure in fighting al-Shabaab, Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reported.
This month, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki appointed Major General S.N. Karanya as the new AMISOM deputy force commander of operations.
"We will maintain our jihad war against the invaders of AMISOM and its followers of the so-called transitional government," Rage said, according to Somalia's Radio Kulmiye.
AMISOM has captured key districts from al-Shabaab in Mogadishu in recent months, and plans to expand its mission beyond Mogadishu.
