Kenyan police are searching for a potential suspect in a grenade attack on a Nairobi church on Sunday (April 29th), focusing on eyewitness accounts of a man in his 20s who left the church moments before the explosion.
"Police are pursuing crucial leads provided by eyewitnesses to establish the identity of the assailant," said police spokesperson Eric Kiraithe, according to Kenya's Daily Nation.
The attack killed one person at the scene, injuring 15. Twelve of the victims were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where one succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack, said S.M. Monda, a surgeon at the hospital.
"This is an act of terrorism," said Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, who was among government officials visiting victims at the hospital. "It is sad that they have gone to the extent of attacking people even as they worship. However, we call for calm across the country."
