The East African Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a motion on Thursday (April 26th) requesting the transfer of Kenya post-election violence cases from the International Criminal Court (ICC) to the East African Court of Justice, Kenya's Capital News FM reported.

Ugandan Dan Wandera Ogallo introduced the motion, which will be presented to the upcoming EAC Summit in Arusha on Saturday. Ogallo advocated that Kenya's ability to address the matter locally has been established over the past four years.

The motion follows Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki's announcement in his State of the Nation address on Tuesday that he was working on securing local trials for four Kenyans facing trial at the ICC, Kenya's Daily Nation reported.

The four Kenyans at the ICC -- Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, former head of public service Francis Muthaura, Eldoret North parliamentarian William Ruto and radio presenter Joshua arap Sang -- will face trial for the chaos that left 1,133 people dead and 650,000 uprooted from their homes.
