The Doha Centre for Media Freedom donated a combined $9000 for medical assistance to six Somali journalists wounded in the April 4th suicide bombing at Mogadishu's National Theatre, Somalia's RBC Radio reported on Monday (April 23rd).
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) distributed the funds last Friday to Said Warsame (Shuuriyaako), Deeqo Mohamed Ahmed, Ahmed Ali Kahiye, Hamdi Muhumad Hassan, Ayaan Abdulle Guure and NUSOJ Vice president Saleiban Sheik Ismail.
Warsame, who received severe burns across his body, was granted $2000 to help him obtain treatment outside of Somalia.
NUSOJ Secretary General Mohamed Ibrahim handed the money to director of Royal International Television Abdulkadir Dulyar, who presented it to Warsame's family.
"As you see… our colleagues cannot be treated in Somalia and on behalf of Somali media, I urge all concerned organisations and government institutions to help the wounded Somali journalists," Dulyar said.
