Puntland security forces conducted major operations against al-Shabaab in the Galgala Mountains on Monday (April 23rd), Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reported.
"I call on people in Puntland to stand firmly with the forces to avert attacks from al-Shabaab militants against government buildings and as well as civilian targets," said Abdullahi Mohammed Donyale, security advisor to Puntland's president. "Al-Shabaab seems to be regrouping in the Galgala Mountains after it was defeated in southern and central Somalia."
Donyale told reporters in Garowe that Puntland forces began the security operations after al-Shabaab began guerrilla-style tactic in Galgala, located 40 kilometres from the port city of Bosaso.
Hundreds of residents have begun fleeing the area, the news agency reported.
