Tanzania has introduced a new requirement that all tour guides obtain accreditation, Kenya's The East African reported on Saturday (April 21st).
"The accreditation will be compulsory," said Director of Tourism Ibrahim Mussa, addressing the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators in Arusha.
Requirements for accreditation include tour-guide training and certification, a valid driving licence and a first-aid certificate. The requirements aim to promote professionalism and improve customer service.
Tanzania's tourism sector employs nearly 200,000 people, including 3,000 tour guides, and receives approximately 900,000 tourists annually, the newspaper reported.
