The al-Qaeda-allied group al-Shabaab executed US-born jihadist Omar Hammami on April 5th, according to unconfirmed Somali media reports.

Hammami, known as Abu Mansour al-Amriki, said he feared for his life from other al-Shabaab leaders because of strategic and ideological differences in a statement released last month.

According to Somalia's Gedo Online, Hammami was the only one absent from a recent meeting attended by top al-Shabaab leaders in Baraawe.

Al-Shabaab reportedly hunted down Hammami after he left Marka in the Lower Shabelle region. He was reportedly beheaded on the spot and buried somewhere between Marka and Baraawe.

According to the report, the alleged execution angered some al-Shabaab leaders, who accused al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane of ordering the execution.

A group of foreign fighters and other top al-Shabaab members, including Fuad Mohamed Khalaf, also known as Fuad Shongoole, reportedly fled to the Galgala Mountains following the news of the execution.

Other leaders who left upon hearing the news include Hassan Dahir Aweys and Mukhtar Robow, Gedo Online reported.

Aweys recently accused other al-Shabaab leaders, including Godane, of shedding the blood of Muslims and murdering innocent civilians in the name of Islam. He described the actions of al-Shabaab's leaders as far removed from Islam.

Somali analysts say the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab group is on the verge of splintering due to deepening internal divisions exacerbated by recent military setbacks.

I feel very sorry for them, they have been driven by their GREAT divide (clan related discrimination, hate plus others). Radical extremists have taken advantage of them they will never stop the killings, because they do not intend to do so, were they to stop they could have done so many years ago. Even the late SIAD BARRE left them a curse & unless they pray for that curse to be cleansed then no killings will stop

I feel mercy for this poor man who was initially misled but killed later. I am wondering why he did he not escape them? Maybe it was his time to die and he could not live beyond. BYE

I’d like these political extremists we don’t say they are Muslim extremists because Islam is not extremist politics and religion are totally different I request that Muslims do not mix religion with politics or do not to catch that serious affliction that Muslims are one Inshallah there is no disputing that I’m in Hargeisa and I’m sorry when I hear that there is also this thing in Somaliland and Puntland where these people are blowing themselves up. Where will they go and where they end up they will really regret it I’m really sorry for them.

Al-Shabaab was initially fighting for political and power related reasons but not for the sake of religion as they claim. Abu-Mansuur thought that they were real in fighting for the sake of the religion but later found that they were politically motivated. The truth is that the group is disintegrating at a very first rate and I wish them to disintegrate further, God willing. Amen.

Maybe he thought there was a true holy war in Somalia when he was coming. When he saw what they were doing he tried to stop them but he didn’t know that no one could stop this misguided group. I feel sorry for this poor man who thought Al-Shabaab was composed of real muslims. He didn’t know that they were pagans who have no respect for any religion. I pray to the Almighty God

It is a nature that something comes down when it reaches on the top, the Al-Qaida affiliated group of Al-shabaab after several years in power now started to disintegrate over conflict of interest and struggle for power, people like Hammami committed atrocities in the Somalia territory and now received the punishment he deserved from within his group, but what we believe is that this is as an unprecedented capture of almighty god for such stupid people because it god’s justice to hunt such evil men and we really appreciate to hear such good news and we wait for other good news in coming months.

This guy was Jihadist and so he was bound to kill people, It's to our advantage that he was killed and also it's also to our advantage when an outlawed group get's disintegrated due their selfishness. Muslim is just a religion like any other but it has tainted by the so called jihadists who are brainwashed by their superiors who are infact not even ready to die for any course and that's why it took all those years to kill Osama.

Abu-Mansur is a Muslim and I will not sin by saying something bad about him. I will not abuse him nor praise him and may God reward/punish him for his deeds. It is possible that Al-Shabaab has killed the white man and I don’t wonder why because they have killed many people better than him from the Somalis and I will never forget the great men such as Sheikh Mohammad Abdirahman, who was killed in Bosaso last year while on his way home from the mosque after performing dawn prayer, the ministers killed in Shamow hotel explosion. Al-Shabaab members are not Somalis and they don’t like Somalis. If they are Somalis why do they kill the Somalis? Who will they govern if they continue suicide-bombing and the killing of people in mass? Will they govern the trees, the bare ground and empty spaces because if they continue killing the people like this, there will be no one left in Somalia in the near future. I am praying to God to protect us from these disasters and to protect us from the evil actions executed by Al-Shabaab. I am a brother living in Hargeisa, Somaliland and who loves his Somali brothers living in Southern Somalia who endured problems for a long time.

It is expected to happen, just like any robbers who steal and kill, and then fight against each other over the loot. May God join them with Osama Bin Laden, Zarqawi, and anyone else following them! We ask God to save Somalia and the Muslims in general from the evils of al-Qaeda, "Al Shabaab" and any other terrorist group!

What is based on falseness remains false! What is based on hatred ends! " Al Shabaab" movement is full of hatred and it is natural that they split, end and fight each other, because their concepts are based on keeping the others away, making them not important. It is natural that when they exile the others, they exile members in their group, one after the other. This is for our good luck and God's support. The Holy Quran says," In the name of God most Gracious, most Merciful, they deceive and act cunningly, but God is the best cunning." God the Almighty is truth.

Peace on to you. All those who agree with harming others for this reason will at last back fire on them. The kind of war propagated by Al-Ameriki in Somalia is unfair and not based on the religion of Islam. I don’t see his killing as wrong because he also came to Somalia to kill others who did nothing wrong to him. If it is true that he was killed, then, I think he deserves it. The old man; Hassan Dahir Aweys is under siege and has nowhere to run for protection. There is no one time we have ever heard Hassan Dahir say, the killing of Muslims is PROHIBITED. He was living in Mogadishu since the civil war began in Somalia but never talked about the executions of fellow Somalis mostly by his ethnic group in Mogadishu and those good songs he began singing in solo nowadays will not make him innocent of the gross human rights violation crimes he committed against the Somali community. If it is true that the son of Shongole ran away for refuge, then, I would like to pass on the message that we will not spare him in Gal-gala mountains and we will have him killed soon or capture him alive because we were told where he ran to, is different from the southern Somalia regions, inhabited by cowards he used to intimidate. He should know that the people of Puntland are different from the people who live in Southern Somalia region. The Son of Shangole has his origin in Puntland but that will not help him today because the crimes he committed against the people of Somalia are greater than his origin and he will not be protected either. I have heard many Somalis say that Godane works for foreigners who are out to create conflict in Somalia and I can believe this information as true because of the merciless actions he executes.
