Kenya's incoming Minister of Tourism Danson Mwazo has said that increasing domestic tourism, improving infrastructure and stepping up marketing campaigns are among his priorities, Kenya's Daily Nation reported on Wednesday (March 28th).
"I am from a marketing background and this should help me develop marketing campaigns that will grow key markets such as Europe, and also sell Kenya to the rest of Africa," said Mwazo, who was appointed on Tuesday, following a cabinet reshuffle.
To boost marketing campaigns, Mwanzo said he will ask the treasury to advance his ministry at least 5% of the money it brings to the country, which totalled 98 billion shillings ($1.2 billion) last year.
Outgoing Tourism Minister Najib Balala has predicted flat growth in tourism this year, citing rising political temperatures in the country and a limited marketing budget.
