An al-Shabaab militant has turned himself in to Puntland authorities, denouncing the militant group, Somalia's Garowe Online reported on Thursday (March 22nd).

Abdirashid Hasan Mohamed had handled finances for the Golis Mountain Militia, which announced that it was joining al-Shabaab last month.

Mohamed's defection was welcomed by authorities, Puntland's Deputy Minister of Security Abdijamal Osman Mohamed told a press conference in Bossaso. The deputy minister re-iterated the pledge of Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Faroole, who has said that any member of al-Shabaab who surrenders to authorities will be pardoned. The Somali Transitional Federal Government offered a similar deal last month.

Mohamed told reporters he left al-Shabaab after realising they had hidden agendas, Garowe reported. He called on other members to leave the al-Qaeda allied group and turn themselves in.

It is good when such kind of action are now emerging.Somalia should remain peaceful, through the understanding of the Militia,''That War will not develop even an inch of that country''but destroys it to the maximum which results in peoples suffering.Wake the Al-Shabaab
