Responsible Tourism Tanzania (RTTZ) opened a week of training sessions for hospitality workers in Arusha at the weekend, Tanzania's The Guardian reported on Saturday (March 17th).
The workshops, which aim to establish a Tanzania national certification scheme in line with international sustainability guidelines for environmentally responsible tourism, will also be held in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
"Strong, well-administered eco-certification schemes and an internationally compliant strategy will give Tanzanian lodges an advantage in attracting today's more ethically-aware traveller," Damien Bell of the Honeyguide Foundation/RTTZ said at the Arusha workshop.
The workshops, sponsored in part by the British High Commission, the Association of British Travel Agents, Travelife International, Hotels Association of Tanzania and the Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors, will educate lodge owners, hotel managers and marketing officials on various facets of environmentally responsible tourism and global market trends.
