Mpanda District Commissioner Rajab Rutengwe on Wednesday (March 7th) ordered a crackdown on parents who are not sending their girls to school, Tanzania's Daily News reported.
Rutengwe gave parents and guardians an ultimatum to resume sending girls to school within 15 days, starting Thursday, or else face legal consequences. He expressed anger that parents have not seen the value of sending their daughters to school, despite government efforts to improve education, the paper reported.
Rutengwe said the order follows an official report indicating that 15 girls who excelled in their final Standard Seven Examinations last year have not reported back to school this year.
